I thought it might be a good time to summarize, in one post, many of the perspectives I’ve shared in the past concerning choosing a college. The short general answer is, attend the best college you can afford. But, of course, that begs the question. What’s best? What’s affordable?

Given the dearth of reliable information, we’re often left to rely on proxies for quality and vague ideas of cost. Nonetheless, here are specific factors I think are important when choosing a college today:
